Mick Boogie Asserts Beastie Boys Place in Rap History With “Grand Royal” Mixtape (Listen & Download)

Unless you're a true OG yourself or have really studied your hip-hop, I don't think most people truly recognize the Beastie Boys' place in rap history. If the Beasties weren't literally one of the first major hip-hop groups in history, they were the second. Mike D, Ad-Rock and MCA began making hip-hop at a time when hip-hop was widely considered to be only a passing fad, and yet nearly three decades later they're still turning out deeply original, dopely creative music.

Ironically though, even though they were right there alongside Run-DMC when hip-hop truly first broke into national consciousness, even some hip-hop heads continue to treat them as the white, gimmick rap crew they were treated as way back in 1980. So now that the Beastie's have been inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, I've got nothing but props for Mick Boogie for putting together this "Grand Royal" mixtape featuring an 80-minute mix of his favorite Beastie rarities, remixes, demos, live versions, out-takes and more

Download link is below the video of legendary rap photographer Jonathan Mannion re-creating the "Paul's Boutique" cover. (Do I even have to say this is some serious Rap Nerdery?) Enjoy:
