Even a couple years ago a "rapper" rhyming over indie rock instrumentals would have been unheard of, but the game's slowly but surely becoming more expansive, thanks in no small part to the wonders of the interwebs. Suddenly it's rare, but not unheard of, to hear some (Non) Hip-Hop Songs of the Week, Novel going in over Mike Snow's "Animal" or even, say, Aleon Craft flipping his own version of Mansions on the Moon's "Broken Paradise".
In usual Aleon fashion, the ATLien somehow manages to combine Southern booty rap with abstract, extra-terrestrial lyricism. It's hard to explain, but I'll take it any day of the week. For more "not your normal hip-hop" be sure to cope Craft's punnily titled "Craft Singles" EP, dropping tomorrow, Tuesday the 19th. Get it?
