Even among hardcore underground rappity rap fans there are two groups - those who think Aesop Rock is completely overhyped, and those who think he's a fucking genius. The debate over Mr. Rock's lyrical merits get brought back up every time a new piece of audio with his voice surfaced - like, for example, this new "Which Way Is Up" cut with Atmosphere.
Atmosphere - producer Ant and rapper Slug for those not up on their Rhymesayers shit - is technically the main story here, this is after all their track, but at this point I think everyone pretty much agrees that for what Atmosphere does (dark "emo rap") there aren't many better. Instead, I'm far more interested in getting RefinedHype Nation's take on Aesop's abilities, so listen to the second verse, vote and comment. Let's get this settled once and for all.
(If you need more Aesop material to ponder over, I highly recommend this and this. "Which Way Is Up" is off a limited edition Rhymesayers vinyl compilation, which you can cop here.)
