You know how every so often "Saved By the Bell" would do these episodes where Zach and Kelly would get stuck in an elevator and then the entire episode would just consist of flashbacks to previous episodes, mostly because the writers couldn't think of a new plot that week? Oh fucking come on, yes you do. Don't front like you didn't watch "Saved By the Bell".
Well this is that "Saved By the Bell" episode, except instead of Tiffany Amber Theisen we'll be talking about J Dilla. Today marks the 6th anniversary of JD's death, and in those six years I've written pretty much all I could conceivably write about one of the greatest producers to ever live - certainly the most visionary.
God I wish I had new Dilla music to write about, but the fucked up thing about people dying is that they stop making new incredible music (except for Tupac, who's averaged like an album every two years since his death). So instead here's a look back at the best James Dewitt Yancey posts over the last few years. RIP Dilla.
And as a closing bonus, Erykah Badu's dope "Telephone", which is about when she got the call Dilla died: "Telephone, it's Ol Dirty [ODB], he wants to give you directions home [to heaven]."
