It happened so slowly and gradually I don't think most people even noticed, but it's been a long, long time since T-Pain's done anything notable. In 2008, the last year he release an album, you couldn't move without running into Mr. Pain. But in the last two years the only work the man seems to be getting is on The Fat Guy Who Yells posse tracks, which isn't exactly something to brag about.
Seriously, do you realize it's been three years since he's released an album and (exempting the Fat Guy Who Yells posse cuts) two years since he's had a single even in the top 25? For a man who once pooped out top ten singles in his spare time that's a hell of a slump. Will new single "5 O'Clock" be the track that puts him back on the map? Probably not.
The latest work from his increasingly Detox-level delayed album "Revolver", "5 O'Clock" isn't a bad song at all. That's right, I said it. Pain's work is fine, the beat's smooth, Lily Allen's hook is sweet and even Wiz' verse is on point. But if his Chris Brown collabo couldn't even crack the top 40 I just don't see this really doing anything. Sounds like a RefinedHype Nation poll is in order:
By the way, am I the only one who doesn't understand Lily Allen's hook? So she and the guy were talking downstairs, the conversation got boring, he said he was going to bed, she somehow snuck up before him and then pretended to be asleep, hoping he'd wake her up and knock boots? Um...I guess that makes sense, although not at all in relation to the verses. Anyway....
