The Good, the Bad & the Ugly: The Best & Worst Super Bowl Commercials

Now that the New Orleans Saints have clenched victory at the 44th annual Super Bowl it’s time to talk about the best part of last nights game and that is the commercials. Dorito’s reigned supreme yet again and although commercials only last anywhere between 30 seconds and one minute there were quite a few that left a lot to be desired. RefinedHype.com takes a look at the three best and the three worst commercials that were featured during the 2010 Super Bowl.

Fails of the Week: Baskett’s Fumble, JD & Janet’s Reunion, Kid Cudi’s Comedy & More

While I certainly didn’t derive any enjoyment from some of the epic f**k ups below, they were too egregious not to be called out. In the third of an ongoing series that will include the best…or worst…fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine Hank Baskett’s super fumble, Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri’s ill-fated reunion, Kid Cudi’s new sitcom and more…

Kam Moye and Marco Polo Stay “Forever Fresh” (Video)

Kam Moye and Marco Polo Stay “Forever Fresh” (Video)

No matter how crazy their style is, some rappers’ flows inevitably get stale and tired (Nicki Minaj anyone?). Not Kam Moye. The N.C. emcee’s been wielding a sick mic for years and today’s he’s dropped “Forever Fresh”, the second single off his “Splitting Image” album and featuring production from Marco Polo that I’ve played about five times in a row. Fresher than a Ziploc son. Watch…

Erykah Badu Enjoys the View From Her “Window Seat” (Listen & Download)

I’m still a little jacked up over last night’s Super Bowl but when Erykah Badu’s new single “Window Seat” rolled across my headphones this morning I suddenly felt mellower than Eminem after a bottle of Valium and Ambien, so I figured I’d share the mellowed out love in case you find yourself in a stressful situation today (like, I don’t know, a job) and are in the need of some sonic relaxation. Curren$y is “Smokee Robinson” (Mixtape Listen & Download)

Curren$y is “Smokee Robinson” (Mixtape Listen & Download)

As if you needed more proof that Curren$y is chronically impaired after his appearance on the “Marley & Me (Remix)”, the New Orleans native has dropped his new THC-soaked mixtape “Smokee Robinson” (great name by the way). Mixed by the omnipresent DJ Don Cannon and featuring rhyme cameos from Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hu$$le, Chip Tha Ripper, Big Sean and more, “Smokee Robinson” is the mixtape of a man who’s got one foot on the streets, one foot in the clouds, and both lungs full of that sticky-icky.

Bobby Creekwater Takes It “Back to Briefcase 2” (Mixtape Listen & Download)

Bobby Creekwater Takes It “Back to Briefcase 2” (Mixtape Listen & Download)

I’d be a mistake to say Bobby Creekwater’s on a comeback, but the man is reestablishing himself on the national scene after leaving Shady Records for the independent grind (a move that’s looking smarter by the minute). Creekwater will be dropping a prolific eight new mixtapes between now and October, one of the best of which will undoubtedly be “Back to the Briefcase 2”. Mixed by fellow ATLer DJ A-Plus and featuring Bobby going in over some of the game’s most iconic beats, “Back to the Briefcase 2” is a must listen for any fan of raw rap. Listen and download…

Who Dat! From Manning to Kim Kardashian, Wrapping Up Super Bowl XLIV

Who Dat! From Manning to Kim Kardashian, Wrapping Up Super Bowl XLIV

Last night, as I predicted, a city visited by tragedy was given reason to flood the streets in celebration when their beloved New Orleans Saints took out the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17, one of those scored that doesn’t give an accurate reflection of how close the game was. While Super Bowl XLIV fell just shy of going down as one of the all-time great games (it was a Manning interception away from the first Super Bowl overtime win), it did feature more twists and turns than Kanye’s career. Here’s a final look back at the night that was…

Classic Album: Warren G’s “Regulate..G-Funk Era” (Review & Video)

Classic Album: Warren G’s “Regulate..G-Funk Era” (Review & Video)

It’s happened to all of us. You fall in love with a song from the summer of 2003, or the fall of 2005, or the vacation of 2007, and from that moment on, that song reminds you of that time. Listening to that track, or that album brings you back to that time in life, like a piece of instant nostalgia. Warren G’s ‘Regulate…G Funk Era’” is that album for me. I remember exactly when I discovered this album, the summer of 2001. See more…

Concise Kilgore “Indecent Proposal” Mixtape (Exclusive Download)

It was just a few weeks ago that the memorably named Concise Kilgore made his debut on our pages, and in that time the fiercely creative emcee has become an audience favorite for anyone still invested in quality hip-hop. In that spirit RefinedHype proudly present’s Kilgore’s new, Sade-inspired mixtape “Indecent Proposal”, a project that chronicles the life and times of a rapper in a relationship with a special woman until the evils of the rap game (namely sex, drugs and hip-hop) lead him to self-destruct.
